Improving IBM CMOD Performance by Requiring Indexed Fields
Inside the Application Group definition window, in the Field Information tab, the ‘Type’ Field can be set to “Index” or “Filter”. When Index is selected, the database engine will create an index on that field, making searches much faster than the ‘Filter’ option, which scans the entire table for the values.
Creating an index is costly in CPU and I/O — not only for the creation of the index, but also for inserting new data during loads of files into Content Manager OnDemand, and during regular database maintenance with the arsmaint utility.
In order to get the maximum benefit from the additional cost of database indexes, users should be required to use that indexed field as part of their search criteria by enabling the ‘Required’ checkbox inside the Field Information tab of the Folder Definition window.
Remember that the ‘Required’ checkbox needs to be selected in each of the Folders that access that Application Group.
